The NYC Department of Design and Construction seeks a Graphic Designer that can make an immediate contribution within our Creative Services unit. The selected candidate will join an active studio and collaborate with writers, illustrators, video producers, and other designers on a wide variety of identity and outreach projects executed across print, video, digital, and environmental media. The Graphic Designer will lead projects through all phases of the design process, from concept development to implementation and will work to maintain and build upon the current brand standards and visual language. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to think on a strategic level while designing elegant solutions for complex problems. The selected candidate should be familiar with creating sharable content and have experience with motion graphics. The selected candidate will thrive in a team environment but also have the ability to work independently and drive projects efficiently to final execution.

GRAPHIC ARTIST - 91415
(1) A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have:
(a) at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
(b) the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
Preferred candidate will have completed a college or post-graduate degree in design, and must have a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a graphic designer. Candidates should have an interest and understanding of current graphic design trends and tools. Interest in architecture, urban design, and New York City is a plus. Candidates must have a portfolio demonstrating a range of visual communication skills, analytical ability, strong typography, and exceptional creative talent. Role requires one who is self-motivated, detail oriented, well-organized, and able to work under deadlines. Candidates must have strong communication, presentation, and production skills. Technical knowledge and expertise using Adobe Creative Cloud is essential. Knowledge of motion graphic software, such as Adobe After Effects, and basic HTML knowledge are a plus.
