The Team You’ll Work With:

The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City's interaction with the Federal administration and Congress. The office keeps the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues affecting the City. The office also advocates on behalf of the city and is the DC liaison between the City and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues.
The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Deputy Director will be assigned a portfolio and will be responsible for all related legislative and budget activity, hearings, and member requests. The Deputy Director also acts as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office and elected officials and agencies. The Deputy Director also facilitates and approves meetings between the Mayor’s Office and elected officials.
In addition to managing a portfolio, the Deputy Director will perform the following additional duties:
- Support the management of external relations with the elected officials and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support or own management of legislative portfolios and responsibilities with the Federal Legislative.
- Affairs director and staff.
- In coordination with the broader IGA Office, respond to inquiries and requests from external partners.
- Advocate for policies benefitting New York City on the federal level.
- Support FLA and IGA leadership in the development of strategic plans, advocacy for policies and initiatives that affect New York City, and drive implementation.
About You:
- You can demonstrate an understanding of and experience with any combination of the following: the federal legislative process, public policy analysis, New York City government and agency operations, and federal advocacy or intergovernmental relations.

- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 7+ years of experience.
- You have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, along with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently, which are imperative. - You have outstanding attention to detail and a strong ability to prioritize and manage a wide array of projects to completion, often under tight deadlines. - You have strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
