The Team You’ll Work With:
For half a century, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) has been the liaison between the New York City government and the disability community. In partnership with City offices and agencies, MOPD ensures City initiatives, programs, and policies address the needs and interests of people with disabilities. The office regularly engages in advocacy and policymaking at the local, state, national, and international levels to make certain accessibility and full inclusion are key priorities for all public and private stakeholders alike.

The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Chief of Staff is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of MOPD. Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Commissioner and the Leadership Team. Point person on policies and hearings at the city, state, and federal levels.

- Serve as liaison to City Hall, Office of the Deputy Mayor, City Hall Press and Communications teams, The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, City Council, Office of Management and Budget, Facilities and Human Resources, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist with Intergovernmental Affairs: Integrating intergovernmental affairs duties; navigating complex government interactions, building relationships, managing hearings, and driving collaborative initiatives.
- Oversee external communications and correspondence and supervise the Director of Communications and the Constituent Services Manager.
- With the Commissioner and Finance, oversee MOPD’s finance and budget operations.
- Internally, lead internal meetings with staff; oversee and manage highly prioritized special projects, including all activities related to the agency's mission; implement internal systems to ensure streamlined processes in MOPD; and support and assist staff.
- Perform other duties as needed.

About You:
- You have excellent policy, communication, writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to solve problems and pay close attention to detail.
- You have experience with relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the city government.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 7+ years of experience.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
